Active Shooter Drill Held At Monastery In Hudson Valley
Although it looked like a real response, an influx of emergency agencies and police at a Hudson Valley monastery was only a drill to prepare for an active shooter scenario. The exercise was held in Putnam County on Sunday, April 21 at the Chuang Yen Monastery in Carmel at 2020 Route 301, according to the Carmel Fire Department. Police are reporting using force against a man who allegedly threatened to shoot people on a major roadway in the region. The incident occurred in Dutchess County on Sunday, April 21, on Main Street in Beacon. According to Lt. Thomas Figlia of the Beacon Police, officers responded to a call for a man wearing gray sweatpants, a grey hoodie, and sunglasses who was threatening to shoot people on Main Street. Police arrested some 45 protesting the war in Gaza at Yale University after refusing to leave the campus. The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m., Monday, April 22, in Beinecke Plaza at Yale University in New Haven. According to Officer Christian Bruckhart of the New Haven Police, officers responded to assist the Yale Police Department regarding a protest in the Beinecke Plaza area. An investigation is underway after a 15-year-old was found shot in the region. The incident occurred in Dutchess County around 2:44 p.m. on Friday, April 19, in the area of 86 Smith St., in Poughkeepsie. According to the City of Poughkeepsie Police, officers responding to the report of a shot fired found a 15-year-old suffering from a severe gunshot wound to the leg. A Hudson Valley man was charged with selling crack in the region following an early morning raid by a drug task force. Dutchess County resident Jaylen Shaw, age 22, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, was arrested on Thursday, April 18, following the raid by the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force. Orange County resident Thomas McDonnell, age 64, of Deerpark, was arrested on Thursday, April 18, by members of the Deerpark Police Department and the City of Port Jervis Police Department. A two-vehicle crash in the Hudson Valley sent one person to the hospital and caused a brief closure on a busy roadway. The incident happened in Putnam County on Wednesday, April 17 just before 10 a.m., when two cars collided on Route 6N in Mahopac near Parker Drive, according to the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department. Arriving first responders soon closed Route 6N at the nearest intersections and tended to the drivers' injuries. One driver was taken to Hudson Valley Hospital while the other refused medical attention.

Residence Goes Up In Flames In Hudson Valley
A Hudson Valley residence was damaged in a blaze that took crews hours to put out. The blaze happened in Putnam County on Monday, April 16 around 2:40 a.m., when a residence in Brewster on Dingle Ridge Road went up in flames, according to the Lake Carmel Fire Department. Responding fire crews from Lake Carmel, Brewster, Carmel, Croton Falls, and the Putnam County Fire Investigation Team were able to get the blaze under control after around two hours, firefighters said. A man faces a grand larceny charge after allegedly using his former employer's company credit card to make tens of thousands of dollars worth of unauthorized purchases in the Hudson Valley, police said. Brush Fire Breaks Out Near Busy Road In Hudson Valley
A large brush fire near a busy Hudson Valley road sent plumes of smoke into the air before crews could put it out. The blaze happened in Putnam County on Tuesday afternoon, April 9 off Route 22 in Brewster, where a large brush fire ignited, Carmel fire officials said on Wednesday, April 17. The incident prompted a large response from the Brewster and Carmel Fire Departments and sent plenty of smoke into the air before it was eventually put out. No injuries were reported.
