Heat index temperatures climbed to as high as 105 degrees Saturday, now, a round of severe thunderstorms is sweeping through the area.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued by the National Weather Service is in effect for Dutchess through 1 a.m. Sunday.
The storms could be accompanied by frequent cloud to ground lightning as well as damaging winds and thunder.
Torrential rain could lead to flash flooding, the National Weather Service said. It advises motorists not to drive vehicles through flooded roadways.
Sunday calls for partly sunny skies and a high at or near 95 degrees. Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon, could produce gusty winds and heavy rain.
