Traffic was tied up on the Bronx River Parkway during Thursday’s morning commute when a van flew off the Cross County overpass in Yonkers, coming to a crashing half below.
The driver of a van was hospitalized with minor injuries after he was driving up the westbound ramp of the Cross County Parkway shortly before 6:30 a.m. when he lost control on the curved roadway, went through the guardrail, off the edge and landed in the median of the Bronx River Parkway, police said.
It is not clear how the driver lost control of the van, which was destroyed after landing on the median.
The crash forced lane closures on both sides of the parkway as first responders cleared the scene before the roadway was completely reopened at approximately 9 a.m. According to reports, traffic was backed up several miles following the incident.
