Report Of Student With Guns Leads To Lockout Of Poughkeepsie Schools

A report of a student with two guns in the area of Poughkeepsie High School prompted a lockout on Thursday morning.

Police received the report at around 9 a.m. and officers and detectives immediately responded, said City of Poughkeepsie PD Captain Richard Wilson.

Poughkeepsie High School and Poughkeepsie Middle School were placed in lockout.

Interviews of students were conducted at the school, Wilson said. 

The grounds in and around the school were checked by officers with negative results with regard to locating guns, according to Wilson.

The school grounds have been deemed secure and the safety of students and staff confirmed, Wilson noted.
