“There is a lot of work ahead,” Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro remarked after taking a helicopter tour of the southern part of the county with Public Works Commissioner Bob Balkind, where they evaluated the damage left by the storm, which led to hundreds of downed trees and power lines throughout the region.
The damage caused by the storm forced New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to declare a state of emergency for Dutchess and three other Hudson Valley counties on Wednesday as he deployed 125 members of the New York National Guard to assist with recovery efforts.
During the storm - which saw wind gusts nearing 70 mph and heavy rains - Molinaro issued an emergency order with travel restrictions in southern Dutchess County.
According to Cuomo, “thousands of state and local personnel are already working hand in hand with pre-deployed equipment to clear transportation corridors of debris and assess damage throughout the affected areas.”
