Residents of Dutchess County will vote Tuesday, March 20 on their village's open trustee seats as well as other local issues in the villages of Rhinebeck, Millerton, Wappingers Falls and Tivoli.

WAPPINGERS FALLS

In Wappingers Falls, the village board’s attempts to dismantle its police department will play a role in Tuesday's elections. Residents can vote at Village Hall, 2582 South Ave. in Wappingers Falls, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

All three trustee races are contested. Mayor Matt Alexander said challengers are bringing up the seven-member Board of Trustees’ debate whether to replace the police force in 2017. After the board voted to disband the police force and a Dutchess County court later ruled that decision void, Wappingers residents voted in January to maintain a local police department.

Mayor Alexander has said the board has moved on from its efforts to eliminate the local police by tapping the Dutchess County Sheriff's Department officers for cheaper coverage.

Bill Fulton, a U.S. Army and Navy veteran challenging Deputy Mayor Scott Davis for the Third Ward trustee position, said he wanted to run in part because he believes seven people made a life-altering decision without giving the public a sufficient chance to offer input.

In the First Ward race, Democratic incumbent Kevin Huber is challenged by June Buntele of the Together We Stand Party.

In the Second Ward, incumbent Ronnie Kormornik, of the Village First Party, in challenged by Jennifer Niznik, of the One United Party.

MILLERTON

In Millerton, There are four candidates competing for two open village trustee seats on Tuesday: Eliot Ramos and Matthew Hartzog, both endorsed by the Democrats, and Alicia Sartori and incumbent David Sherman, both endorsed by the Republicans.

Voting in Millerton runs from noon to 9 p.m. at the Village of Millerton Nutrition Site on Simmons Street near Dutchess Avenue.

RHINEBECK

In Rhinebeck, Tuesday's unopposed election comes as village officials deal with controversy from the removal of and then replacement of POW/MIA flags from two government buildings.

Brant Neunecker, one of two trustees running for re-election in Rhinebeck, said trustees asked for veterans' feedback and should have received it first in regard to the village's removal of POW/MIA flags from government buildings.

John Rossi Jr. is the other incumbent seeking re-election. Polls are open from noon to 9 p.m. at Rhinebeck Town Hall, East Market Street.

TIVOLI

There are two uncontested open trustee seats featuring incumbents Emily Majer and Jeannan Schneider of the Tivoli First Party. Polls are open from noon to 9 p.m. at the Tivoli Firehouse, 1 Tivoli Commons.
