Lynette Ruffin, 27, of Stanford, was discovered inside the car after state police from the Poughkeepsie barracks responded to a 911 call of a report of a vehicle in the water, said Mellisa McMorris, spokeswoman for the state police.
When troopers arrived on scene they saw the vehicle on its roof and partially submerged in the Wappinger Creek, McMorris said.
Responding officers and volunteer firemen from the Stanford Fire Department entered the water and attempted to remove the driver from the vehicle. With the assistance of first responders and tow truck operators, Ruffin was extricated and immediately transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital by Stanford Ambulance, she added.
She was pronounced dead at the hospital, McMorris said.
Northern Dutchess Paramedics also responded to the scene to evaluated first responders.
