Barry Gutierrez, 26, was arrested after troopers were called to a Stanley Lane residence for a report of a person acting erratically, McMorris said.

When officers arrived they encountered Gutierrez who ran to his backyard and set a television doused in gasoline on fire. He then pulled out the machete and began pointing it at the troopers, she said.

Troopers were able to take Gutierrez into custody without incident and transported him to the barracks for processing. He was charged with menacing a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Gutierrez was arraigned in the Village of Wappingers Falls court before Justice Raymond Chase and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.
