Akbar McClennon, 31, and Jarrin Mayes, 28, were charged with five counts of first-degree robbery.
The shooting was not a random act of violence and McClennon and Mayes are known to the victim and to witnesses at the scene, police said.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department said it received a call at around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday saying a person was shot in a hotel room at the Poughkeepsie Inn at 2625 South Road.
The scene was secured by responding officers and the shooting victim was transported immediately to MidHudson Regional Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
In addition, the two suspects were detained after a brief area search.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, The New York State Police, the Arlington Fire District, and the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office.
Both McClennon and Mayes were arraigned before Town Justice Stephan Krakower and remanded to Dutchess County Jail on $250,000/$500,000 bail, to reappear on Thursday, July 13 before Town Justice Paul Sullivan.
The investigation is ongoing, and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance.
