Two 15-year-old teens were charged with making terroristic threats and falsely reporting an incident after posting threats against schools in Port Jervis.

The Port Jervis police said following an investigation there was no credible threat of violence regarding posts made by the two teens on Wednesday.

According to police,  the department received numerous reports from the public and other emergency service agencies reporting a threatening post on the social media site “Snapchat” indicating a threat of violence will occur at a school.

Officers and detectives immediately conducted an investigation into the threatening posts and identified two 15-year-old juveniles from the Port Jervis/Deerpark area as being responsible for posting the threat, police said.

Port Jervis City School District Administration officials were notified of the incident and have been working closely with police throughout the investigation. According to information developed during the investigation, police believe the threats of violence were intended to scare and cause panic, the department said.

Deerpark police, New York State Police and the Orange County Attorney’s Office assisted Port Jervis City Police and Port Jervis City School District with the investigation.

Port Jervis and Deerpark police departments have committed to continue to provide an increased police presence in each of area schools to help maintain a safe learning environment for students and staff. School officials and counselors will also be on hand.

Additionally, if parents have any questions or concerns, they should contact their child's school office.
