Town Of Poughkeepsie Pedestrian Hit By Car Has Life-Threatening Injuries

A 72-year-old Town of Poughkeepsie woman received serious head injuries after being hit by a car on Violet Avenue, according to the Town of Poughkeepsie Police.

The incident took place around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday near 347 Violet Ave., when the woman stepped onto the roadway and was struck by a car traveling north, said Lt. Brian Wagner.

The woman suffered serious head injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The car was driven by a 49-year-old man from Red Hook, Wagner said.

The Fairview Fire Department also responded to the scene and rendered aid to the woman. The driver was not injured.

Violet Avenue between Copy Terrace and Cottage Road was closed for more than four hours during the investigation.

The condition of the woman was not known Thursday morning.
