Langley narrowly defeated incumbent Sheriff Don Smith on Nov. 7 as reported here by Daily Voice. Langley, a Democrat, defeated Smith by 342 votes. Smith has served as Putnam County Sheriff since 2002.

Corrigan has 34 years of law enforcement experience, including 21 years in the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, including 18 of those years as a criminal investigator.

He also has served on the police forces of the Village of Cold Spring and the Town of New Fairfield, Conn., as well the City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection Police.

Corrigan is a 1995 graduate of the 183rd Session of the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va.

Langley said he chose Corrigan as his Undersheriff because “Mike’s priority has always been to serve the community."

"He is a thorough, meticulous law enforcement officer," Langley said of Corrigan. "Mike commands respect among the rank and file, and he will bring excellence to our officer training programs. Like me, Mike will hold our deputies to a high standard of performance, and with me he will return integrity to the department.”
