Suspended Student's Appearance At School Sparks Poughkeepsie Police Probe

The principal of Poughkeepsie Middle School has been cleared of any wrongdoing by police after a complaint was filed regarding the use of excessive force in an incident involving a suspended student who returned to school.

The incident, between Principal Da'Ron Wilson and an unnamed student, occurred around 2:20 p.m., April 3 at the school, said City of Poughkeepsie Police Det. Lt. Matt Clark.

Police were called to the school at 55 College Ave., to investigate the incident which began when the student, who was suspended from school, was found inside walking a hallway. When Wilson, attempted to stop him, the student resisted, Clark said.

The department was asked to investigate an allegation of excessive force being used by the principal in attempting to remove the student, police said.

"After reviewing video from inside the school and interviewing students and staff present during the incident the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department will not be filing criminal charges against Da’Ron Wilson," Clark said.

Police did not return phone calls to provide additional information regarding the case.

School officials did not return phone calls or emails at the time of publication.
