The incident occurred on Thursday when a shopper was approached by a large-framed black man with a shaved head and mustache who asked for help jump-starting his vehicle, said Lt. Brian Wagner.

The man then quickly changed his mind and asked for a ride, but once inside the car he immediately pressured this shopper for money. During the car ride, the man asked to be taken to several locations and at each stop had another reason to ask for additional money, Wagner said.

The shopper eventually just drove off leaving the man at one of the locations. The victim told police that at no time did he feel threatened by the man, Wagner added.

Similar incidents with same subject description have been reported in Putnam and Ulster counties. Police are warning residents that if approached by this man to decline to provide any assistance and to call police immediately at 845-485-3666.
