Jason M. Reed, 33, was arrested early Monday, June 13, in connection with a commercial burglary in Hyde Park, police said.

He was subsequently liked to the thefts of cartons of cigarettes at gas stations and convenience stores around the county, police said, including a Stewart’s and a Sunoco gas station, both on Route 82.

The June 13 incident involved a Shell gas station.

Police investigating the break-in stopped Reed and two women not far from the scene.

All three, police said, were subsequently charged with third-degree burglary, a felony.

Cigarettes stolen from the Shell station were recovered, police said.

Reed was then linked to 11 other burglaries and three attempted break-ins going back to May, police said.

The motivation for the crimes seems to be drug-related, police said.

Reed was arraigned in the Town of Hyde Park Court and sent to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.

The women, whose names are being withheld by police, were released and are to appear in court at a later date.

East Fishkill police said the alleged burglary spree was nipped in the bud by the collaboration of several local law enforcement agencies, including: the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office; the Dutchess County district attorney’s office; Town of Hyde Park Police; Town of East Fishkill Police; Town of Poughkeepsie Police; and Town of Fishkill Police.
