Poughkeepsie Man, 23, Charged With Stealing Car On Route 9W

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- The New York State Police in Highland arrested Joel. A Cruz, 23, of Poughkeepsie for felony fourth-degree grand larceny after he was caught stealing a car at a park and ride.

According to the state police, on Dec. 15 they received a report of a stolen vehicle which was left at the park and ride located at State Route 9W and State Route 299 in the Town of Lloyd. The vehicle was located a short time later in the Town of Esopus.

A witness revealed to Troopers that that an unknown male had parked the stolen vehicle at a gas station in the Port Ewen region and was last seen walking northward towards Kingston. A short time later, state police located a man matching the description of the driver who left the area and identified him as the person who had taken the car. 

Cruz was arraigned before Judge Elia in the Town of Lloyd Court and was remanded to Ulster County Jail on $5,000 cash / $10,000 bond. He is set to appear in court on Dec. 17.
