Matthew R. Herring, 22, was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 2, after a one-car crash on Route 9 in Wappingers Falls, state police said.

Herring was driving north when he apparently lost control of his car, which went off the road and hit a curb, state police said.

He was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police said Herring was in possession of heroin, a hypodermic needle, and other drugs.

He also faces charges of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic instrument, both misdemeanors, police said.

Herring was ticketed and is to appear in the Town of Wappinger Court on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
