Firefighters were on scene within two minutes of a fully involved blaze at an abandoned residential-style structure that was close to two other buildings.

The blaze took place around 7:30 p.m. Monday at 2611 South Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie, saidĀ Arlington Fire District Chief Tory Gallante.

The first fire department unit arrived on the scene within two minutes of the initial dispatch and confirmed a fully involved fire located at the rear of the former Poughkeepsie Inn property. Two other structures were within close vicinity to the fire building but were not on fire, Gallante said.

Firefighters were able to able to douse the flames within 30 minutes despite the fact that the first fire hydrant the department attempted to use didn't work. They were able to find another, working hydrant, on Hudson Plaza, the chief added.

"The non-operational hydrant did not have a significant impact on fire suppression operations," he added.

There were no reported injuries and the fire was under control by 8 p.m.

Assisting at the scene of the fire were the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department, Mobile Life Support Services, Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Town of Poughkeepsie Building Department, DC Dept. of Emergency Response, and Central Hudson Gas & Electric.

The New Hamburg, New Hackensack, and Pleasant Valley Fire Districts were dispatched to cover Arlington stations.

The cause of the two-alarm fire remains under investigation by the Arlington Fire District Fire Investigation Division and the police department.
