Once on scene, firefighters found a fire and smoke in Townhouse T, at 35 West Cedar St., Fairview Fire Chief Christopher Maeder reported.

The fire was quickly contained to the original unit with minor water damage to the surrounding units. The fire was declared out at 8 p.m.; less than 20 minutes after the initial alarm, he added.

Assisting the Fairview Fire District was the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department, Town of Poughkeepsie Building, and New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.

There were no injuries to firefighting personnel or residents.

Marist College was working to reoccupy the surrounding units and to provide housing to the students of the unit sustaining fire damage, Maeder said.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.
