A Dutchess County teenager driving a U-Haul truck was busted by state police for driving while under the influence of drugs during a traffic safety checkpoint on Route 22 in Putnam County.

Troopers conducting a stationary traffic safety checkpoint in Southeast on Wednesday night stopped East Fishkill resident Christie Friedland, 19, after interviewing her and detecting the smell of marijuana.

Further investigation into Friedland determined that she was driving while intoxicated and had a suspended license. She was subsequently arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving while ability impaired by drugs and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, all misdemeanors.

Following arraignment, Friedland was released and is due to appear in the Town of Southeast Court on Feb. 8 to answer the charges.
