Corrections Officer Caught With Heroin, Suboxone In East Fishkill

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - A Dutchess County corrections officer is facing serious drug charges after he was busted with heroin and painkillers by police last week.

Officials announced on Wednesday that New Paltz resident Jeffrey Burkins, 32, was arrested in Fishkill following a lengthy investigation by the Dutchess County Drug Task Force that culminated last week.

According to police, on Thursday, Jan. 19, the task force’s narcotics investigation reached its conclusion at Merritt Boulevard, when they arrested Burkins  - who works as a corrections officer in Beacon - when he was found in possession of a quantity of heroin and suboxone.

Burkins was charged with felony counts of third and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance, first-degree promoting prison contraband and one count of receiving reward for official misconduct. He was arraigned in the Town of East Fishkill Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail.
