Zita V. Losey, 78, Of Hopewell Junction

HOPEWELL JUNCTION, N.Y. -- Zita V. Losey, 78, of Hopewell Junction and formerly of Peekskill, Cortlandt Manor and Yonkers, died Monday, Nov. 30.

Born March 18, 1937, in the Bronx, she was the daughter of John Joseph and Zita Irene (Wood) Vaughan. 

Losey was a graduate of the Class of 1955 from Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, and was a special education/teacher aide at Lincoln-Titus Elementary School in Lakeland Central School District for 17 years.

Prior to becoming a mother and homemaker, she was a secretary at Nestle Company. She also was a former Hand to Mouth Player, a former member of the Hudson Valley Sweet Adelines, former parishioner and choir member of St. Columbanus Church in Cortlandt Manor, and a parishioner and choir member of St. Columba Church. She enjoyed singing, acting and reading.

On July 29, 1961, at St. Joseph’s Church in Yonkers, she married William A. Losey Jr. who survives at home. She also is survived by: her children, Zita Kurtzman-Yennie and her husband Bill of Pennsylvania; Jennifer Polk and her husband David of Hopewell Junction; William Losey III and his wife Tori of Greenwich; and Andrew Losey and his wife Joan of Fishkill; her grandchildren, Tyler, Matthew, Megan, Daniel, Connor, Kyle, Hannah and Andrew; her former son-in-law, Gary Kurtzman; and her foster son, Joseph Crothers.

Calling hours will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the McHoul Funeral Home, 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
