POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Barbara J. Cruger, age 87, of Poughkeepsie, died Friday, April 22, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
Cruger was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Chattanooga, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late Vern and Gladys (Seaver) Baker. She married Thomas J. Cruger on June 3, 1950, at St. Stanislaus Church in Pleasant Valley. Her husband predeceased her on Nov. 5, 2011. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie and the Red Oaks Mills Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to do crossword and jumble puzzles and watch TV.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna M. Miller and her husband Richard of Lagrange; a son, Michael J. Cruger Sr. and his wife Melanie of Tivoli; nine grandchildren Julie, Jason, Krista, Casey, Autumn, Ben, Chelsey, Michael Jr. and Heather; 14 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Erma Baker.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Diane B. Chiavaroli; a son, Thomas Cruger Jr.; a granddaughter, Donna Marie Miller; a brother, Kenneth "Joseph" Baker; a sister, Betty Foley; and her stepparents, Thelma Baker and James Henderson.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 27, from 4-8 p.m. at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 28, at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main St., Poughkeepsie. Burial will be private at St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
