Anthony E. Magliocca, 90, Of Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Anthony E. (Tony) Magliocca, of Poughkeepsie, died Wednesday July 27, 2016 at the Castle Point VA Hospital.

Magliocca was born Feb. 1, 1926, in Staten Island, the son of the late Frank and Michelina Devico Magliocca.

He is survived by his wife Connie (DeMatteo) of 68 years. They were married Dec. 13, 1948, in Our Lady Of Peace Church in Brooklyn. He also is survived by his four children and their spouses, Frank Magliocca, Michele and Anthony Lupoli, Angelo and Anna Marie Magliocca, Madeline and Dom Letterii; eight grandchildren, Chris and Johnny Gent, Toni Ann Kocher, David, Stephen and Kristina Magliocca and Sara and Angelo Magliocca; two 2 step grandchildren, Jene Luciani and Patrick Lupoli; seven great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; sister, Antoinette Stancarone of New Jersey; brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Ann Magliocca of Staten Island; and many neices, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Michelina (Devico) Magliocca; brother, Thomas Magliocca; and infant brother, Umberto.

He worked for the U.S. Postal service for 32 years, retiring in 1993. He took pride in his work as a postal worker and all of his co-workers and patrons loved him. He was proud to have served his country in World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in the South Pacific on the island of Mannes as an electrician on a repair ship that would fix the battle ships that were disabled in the war. He received the Victory Medal and the American Theatre Medal.

He always had a story to tell and a good joke. You knew when he was around because he'd be whistling or jingling the change in his pocket. He was a proud, respectful, good-hearted and kind man.

Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, 299 Hudson View Drive Poughkeepsie. Entombment will follow at Poughkeepsie, Rural Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
