Dutchess County Supreme Court blocked an effort by the village to disband its police force and replace it with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, saying the village did not conduct an environmental review.
The Sheriff's Office was set to take over on Jan. 1, saving the village more than $500,000. The village said an environmental review was unnecessary since the decision did not impact the physical environment, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.
The village said it has money to fund the police force through May 30 and said it will make a motion to start a review at the Dec. 13 board meeting, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.
