The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Dutchess residents regarding the residency of 59-year-old George Mercer, who has moved to a residence on Rose Street in Poughkeepsie.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Mercer a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated as a sexually violent offender.

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Mercer had sexual intercourse with his victim in October 2003 and he was convicted of first-degree rape of a minor in September 2005, when he was sentenced to 12 years in state prison. Mercer is now under the jurisdiction of the Poughkeepsie City Police Department.
