Dillon Colon, 18, received life-threatening injuries during the crash that took place in the area of Todd Hill Road in LaGrange, police said.

Passenger Ryan J. Mucci, 17, also an Arlington High senior, died June 1 from injuries, state police said.

A preliminary investigation shows the pair were in a Chevy Malibu operated by Colon traveling westbound on Todd Hill Road when the vehicle exited the northern shoulder of the roadway and struck a tree, state police said.

They were extricated by members of the LaGrange Fire Department, said Trooper Melissa McMorris, spokesperson for the state police.

Both were taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital where Mucci died from his injuries. Colon remained in critical condition until he passed away on Monday, McMorris said.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, but speed is believed to be a contributing factor, McMorris added.

The last day of classes at Arlington High School was Monday, but the school website said counselors remained on campus if needed.
