DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - Residents are invited to attend two public hearings scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 30 and Thursday, Aug. 31 to discuss the Countywide Shared Services Tax Savings Plan.
The plan is the result of multiple meetings of local city, town and village officials, along with representatives from school districts, BOCES, and special improvement districts, to develop projects and services that can be shared as mandated by the 2017-18 state budget.
The meetings will be held:
- Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. at the Wappinger Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls.
- Thursday, Aug. 31 at 10 a.m. in the Dutchess County Legislature Chambers, 22 Market Street, Poughkeepsie.
The plan features 37 projects that can provide over $27 million in taxpayer savings in 2018 and 2019 if all projects are successfully implemented. A broad spectrum of projects are featured in the plan, including shared salt and paving material purchasing, motor vehicle repair, website development and maintenance, shared court facilities and salt sheds, Drug Task Force efforts, municipal solar farms, consolidation of law enforcement, and much more.
The proposed plan also includes a regional project with Dutchess and Ulster counties partnering to expand their Conflict Defender Swap program into Family Court, projected to save nearly $70,000 over a two-year period.
Approved, eligible plans will receive matching funds from the state.
Dutchess County Executive Molinaro will offer a presentation on the plan at the Dutchess County Legislature’s Sept. 7 committee meeting. Agreed upon plans must be submitted to the state before Sept. 15 to be considered for funding.
