The crash occurred on the Taconic State Parkway between Bryant Pond Road and Peekskill Hollow Road in Putnam Valley early Sunday afternoon.

An investigation revealed that a group of approximately six motorcycles were traveling northbound at a high rate of speed, state police said.

The lead motorcyclist failed to negotiate a turn in the roadway and subsequently lost control of his bike, striking the center guide rail. The motorcyclist, 22-year-old Arturo J. Valenti of Queens was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Several northbound vehicles reduced their speed after witnessing the crash. A second motorcyclist struck the rear of a car and was ejected from his motorcycle. The motorcyclist was transported to Hudson Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash, which occurred shortly after 1 p.m., resulted in the closure of both northbound lanes on the Taconic and one southbound lane until approximately 4 p.m.
