Town Of Poughkeepsie Offering Five-Day Youth Police Academy

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. --  Teens who think they may be interested in a career in law enforcement are invited to attend a five-day youth academy offered by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department in June.

The program, which will run from Monday, June 26 to Friday, June 30, is for Town of Poughkeepsie teens who will be entering 10th, 11th or 12th grade in September. 

The Youth Police Academy is designed to be a hands-on interactive experience where attendees will be introduced to the core functions of policing, including criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, K-9 familiarization, SWAT, Reality Based Scenarios, and more. 

Each session will be taught by highly-trained, certified instructors. 

Applications can be picked up at the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department located at 19 Tucker Drive, or by calling the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Juvenile Unit at 845-485-3688. An application is also available online here.  There is no fee for the program.

Completed applications must be returned to the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, June 10.
