POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Lily Hickey can officially call herself a college graduate.
Hickey recently graduated from Marist College in Poughkeepsie with a degree in communications.
"The beauty and friendliness of the campus grabbed me immediately," Hickey said. " I have lived in Dutchess County my whole life, but was not aware of how incredible Marist is until I was accepted."
Hickey said she loved Marist, getting to meet many wonderful people.
"I will always cherish the memories I made at Marist," Hickey said.
Hickey initially went to Marist as a business major but after a year decided business was not for her but soon fell in love with communications.
"What sold me on communications was the open mindedness and creativity that my intro to comm professor exhibited," Hickey said. "I felt as if I really belonged in every communications class."
Entering the postgrad world is bittersweet for Hickey, who has nothing currently lined up. Hickey has done some modeling for a Poughkeepsie clothing boutique.
"The modeling came about through some connections that I have," Hickey said. Some owners/makeup artists/photographers saw my photos over social media and reached out for shoots. I figured why not get some good photos. I have a shoot coming up in a couple of weeks with a really cool photographer so I'm looking forward to that. I love being able to play a role in an artists vision."
Hickey said she will cherish certain memories of Marist, including when the college celebrated Senior Week.
"There was a different event each day, stemming from local bar crawls to luau themed parties with dunk tanks," Hickey said. "Everyone came together and there was not an ounce of negativity. I made so many new friends from all over the world during this week that I had never met throughout our four years. It's a week that I'll never forget."
