LaGrangeville Blogger Auditions For Master Chef Home Cooks

LAGRANGEVILLE, N.Y. -- LaGrangeville resident Brooke Fedigan is the first to admit she likes to go outside of her comfort zone. On her blog, Be Fed Again, where she's been writing and posting for two and a half years, she talks all about her DIY projects, her cooking passion and her family life.

So when the folks at Dutchess County Tourism asked her to try out for the TV show, Master Chef Home Cooks, she felt she couldn't say no. After all, what's another challenge?

She admits she hymned and hawed over what she'd cook and present. "I thought about what I could make that would taste delicious at room temperature as the try out day would be long an no stoves or ovens were on location," she wrote in her post. "And, I thought about how I could stand out, and prove that home cooks are just as tuned to details as the pros."

Being a "Preppy, Loafers with no socks" kind of gal, she not only made a gorgeous looking Smoked Salmon Mousse & Arugula Napoleon, but she set her dish amidst a formal place setting complete with homemade placemat, napkin and a centerpiece of gerber daisies.

Despite feeling confident about her entree and its setting - she was the only one that presented her meal that way -- she said she realized, after seeing the more than 40 people competing and the intenseness of the room -- that it wasn't for her.

The judge who tasted her dish in fact, complimented her food but told her she was too "reserved" for the competition.

"He told me he truly enjoyed my dish. Some of the best salmon mousse he's ever had," she said which made her feel good. But after hearing about the cut throat personality one needs for the show, she realized the only competing she wants to do is with herself. You can read the blog post HERE.

"I learned a lot about television that day," she said. "But more importantly, I learned a lot about myself."

Up next for Fedigan: posts about her garden with emphasis on design and sowing the seeds. She's also begun a total gut on her den so expect updates on that as well.
