No matter how great 2016 was or wasn't, people want a better year than the one before.

Polls show 67 percent of Americans participate in the tradition of making a resolution, with 8 percent achieving their goal, WalletHub.com says.

In 2015, the No. 1 resolution was losing weight, followed by getting organized and spending less and saving more, statisticbrain.com says.

Almost 50 percent of resolutions were self-improvement related in 2015 and nearly 40 percent were related to weight loss, statisticbrain.com says.

The younger you are, the greater your chances of achieving your resolution. People in their 20s showed a success rate of 39 percent, over people in their 50s, with 14 percent.

New Year's Day isn't just about resolutions -- it's also about fun. Although 46 percent of Americans will celebrate at home and 30 percent will fall asleep before midnight, 175 million people in the U.S. are expected to watch the ball drop in Times Square — in person or on TV, according to WalletHub.com.

People who go out for dinner and a show can expect to pay anywhere from a low of $480 in D.C. to a high of $1,160 in Manhattan.

An estimated 20 percent of revelers are planning to celebrate at a friend's house, with just 9 percent heading out to a bar, club or organized event.
