The orchestra, now celebrating its 57th season, plans this year to highlight the works of 21st century composers, according to a statement from the group.
Works by Danny Elfman, a four-time Oscar nominee, Grammy winner and favorite composer of film director Tim Burton; John Luther Adams, a 2014 Pulitzer Prize winner; Tan Dun, an Oscar and Grammy winner who scored the film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon;” and Richard Wilson, a Vassar professor celebrating his 75th birthday, are all to be featured during the upcoming concert season.
Other scheduled highlights include performances of the symphonies of Gustav Mahler, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Dmitri Shostakovich and Ludwig van Beethoven; a performance by a Van Cliburn International Piano Competition medalist; the Hudson Valley Philharmonic String Competition; and a performance by violinist Rachael Barton Pine.
“This versatile mix of drama and romance creates a sensational variety of powerful concerts, each accentuating the orchestra’s superb musicianship,” orchestra leaders said in the statement.
This is the 18th year the orchestra will be performing under Bardavon management and the 24th year it will be performing under the direction of conductor Randall Craig Fleischer.
