Blackboard Café, Wappingers Falls

What Makes It "Strong": While comfort foods like Bananas Foster French Toast, prime rib au jus, and crispy chicken man 'n' cheese -- not to mention homemade scones and muffins -- are its main attraction, Blackboard Café still serves a mean cup of Joe.

Owner/chef Andrew Rizzo, who named his snug, homey café on the village’s main drag as an homage to his former career as a teacher, makes it with roasted and ground Colombian beans from Java Medic Eurocoffee, a Mahopac-based business. And there’s no better way to warm up – and store up calories for the winter – than with a frothy cappuccino and the café’s famed rainbow cookie cheesecake made by pastry chef Dana Charres.
