But with it will come slippery travel conditions throughout the tristate Christmas Eve into Christmas morning with areas of rain, ice and snow.

The track and strength of the storm, as well as the speed at which much colder air arrives, will determine the form of precipitation from Sunday night to early Christmas Day, according to AccuWeather.com.

Christmas Eve Day will see mostly sunny skies with the high temperature in the upper 30s.

Then comes a mixed bag of precipitation with a chance of rain, snow, and sleet before midnight, then rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet likely between midnight and 3 a.m. Christmas morning, followed by the likelihood of snow, freezing rain and sleet after  3 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

After morning snow showers wrap up by noon, the rest of Christmas Day will be partly sunny with a high in the upper 30s.

Monday night will be sharply colder with a low in the mid-teens

Tuesday will be continued cold and sunny with a high in the upper 20s.
