New York State troopers responded to a possible burglary in progress on Mill Road after receiving a 911 from the caretaker of the property who had noticed a light on inside the residence and a man inside, said Trooper Melissa McMorris, spokeswoman for the New York State Police.
When troopers arrived they made contact with the man inside, John Darden, 24, of Seattle, Wash., who eventually exited and was taken into custody, McMorris said.
During the investigation, troopers discovered Darden had traveled to the area from New York City and discovered the residence while walking on the rail trail. He had entered the property on Monday and remained until he was discovered on Tuesday, McMorris added.
Darden was charged with felony burglary and is being held at the Dutchess County Jail on $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 6.
