Book Buddies offers elementary school students the opportunity to read one-on-one with an adult volunteer, and is sponsored by the United Way nonprofit partner Literacy Connections of the Hudson Valley.

Principal David Scott and reading specialist Julie Falco thanked the volunteers for partnering with the school and instilling a love of reading in the children.

The children walked into the celebration with a carnation of thanks for their volunteer. Each child met with their volunteer weekly during the school year.

Following snacks and bookmark creation, the children chose a new book donated by Batty Harrel's Leading to Reading team of the Poughkeepsie AAUW and Ellen Rubin with the Empire State Center for the Book.

Judy Connolly, Book Buddies coordinator, thanked all the volunteers for their time.
