Local Produce Still In Demand Despite State Farmland Decline, NY Times Says

The Ulster County farm is featured in an article about suppliers of New York State farm produce.

And while foods produced locally are in demand, they "collide" with the expanding real estate market, especially in the Hudson Valley, where New Yorkers are heading for "the region’s natural beauty, more relaxed pace and less expensive housing," The New York Times reported.

The "boom" has resulted in farmland being sold by owners, rather than keep it for farming, said the report.

Thus New York's farms have steadily declined from "35,537 in 2012 from 38,264 in 1997," according to a recent five-year Department of Agriculture census, The New York Times cited.
