Women Outnumber Men At Culinary Institute For First Time

HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- Enrollment at the Culinary Institute of America has reached a new milestone.

For the first time ever, there are women than men with 51.6 percent female enrollment. When the school opened in 1946, there was one woman in the class of 50.

The school, which Julia Child called "the Harvard of cooking schools," has more than 3,000 students from all over the world.

Female enrollment jumped to 20 percent in 1980 and 30 percent by 2000. By 2006, enrollment was up to 40 percent, according to Huffington Post
