Dutchess Voters Head To The Polls For Village Elections

Villages will be contesting elections throughout Dutchess County on Tuesday, with a mayoral race in Rhinebeck topping the slate.

Incumbent Mayor Heath Tortarella is being challenged by Trustee Gary Basset. Tortarella was appointed mayor in Feb. 2015 and was his elected to his first term in March 2015.

An Iraqi War veteran, Tortorella said he wants to improve Rhinebeck's water infrastructure and continue the development of Legion Park at Crystal Lake as a recreation site, according to The Daily Freeman

Tortarella is a physical therapist with AMT Wound Care.

Bassett, was appointed to the village board in Aug. 2015 and elected to a full-term last year. 

Bassett said he wants to protect the water supply and improve communications with Rhinebeck and other municipalities, according to The Daily Freeman.

An electrical engineer with Hudson Solar, Basset is first assistant chief and an EMT with Rhinecliff Fire and Rescue. 

Incumbent trustees Gina Fox and Howard Traudt are being challenged by Richard Lewit and Sarah Burke. 

In Red Hook, Trustees Jennier Norris and Steve Zacharzuk will face Charles Laing and Brett Lipton. 

In Wappingers Falls, incumbent 2nd ward trustee Jennifer Niznik faces Jason Enson while in the race for 3rd ward trustee Brian Whitten will face Yvette Walton for the open seat.

Elections in Tivoli and Millerton are unopposed.
