POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro has signed certificates for 17 law enforcement officers who have completed training in crisis intervention.
Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training is hosted by the county, the Sheriff’s Office, the county’s Department of Mental Hygiene, Poughkeepsie police, and PEOPLe, a nonprofit agency that aids people living with mental health issues or trauma.
Under the program, police officers, and other law enforcement officials learn how to deal with people in crisis due to behavioral or developmental issues.
This in turn helps create a partnership between police, advocacy groups, and mental health communities, according to the county.
