Timothy Ryerson was charged with a felony and two misdemeanors related to his friendship with a girl younger than 16 that was cultivated solely online over the course of a year, state police.

After he threatened to harm her family, the girl exposed herself repeatedly, state police said. As the treatment went on, she told an adult what had been going on and authorities were contacted through the state's Child Abuse Hotline, according to police.

The arrest was the culmination of a two-month investigation, and a protection order was served against Ryerson on behalf of the girl.

Ryerson was remanded to the Orange County Jail on $20,000 bail and will next appear in Washingtonville Village Court on Wednesday, Jan. 13.
