Wappingers Man Charged With Unlawfully Collecting Unemployment

WAPPINGER, N.Y. -- A local man has been arrested and charged with grand larceny for allegedly collecting unemployment while employed, said New York State Police.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Wappinger barracks said that Morlon J. Richards, 34, of Wappingers Falls, has been charged with felony third-degree grand larceny and felony first-degree falsifying business records, following an investigation conducted by the New York State Department of Labor and the New York State Police.

According to police, Richards is accused of unlawfully collecting over $5,600 in unemployment benefits between March of 2014 and July of 2014 by creating false business records certifying that he was totally unemployed when in fact he was gainfully employed.

He was arraigned before the Town of Fishkill Court and released on his own recognizance.
