Troopers stopped a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound on the parkway when they observed the driver not wearing a seatbelt, state police said.
While interviewing the driver of the vehicle, who was identified as Daniel H. Balmer of Copiague in Suffolk County, troopers detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, police said. A subsequent investigation revealed that Balmer possessed cocaine and marijuana, according to police.
Brianna M. Antonawich, also from Copiague, possessed marijuana, cocaine, concentrated cannabis and psilocybin mushrooms, state police said.
Antonawich was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a Class C felony, as well as three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a Class A misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
Balmer was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a Class A misdemeanor and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
Both were arraigned in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,500 bond.
They are scheduled to reappear in the Pleasant Valley Court on May 18.
