Suspect Caught With Stolen Handgun After Shooting In Poughkeepsie

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -  Poughkeepsie police arrested a 22-year-old city man Monday with a stolen handgun shortly after another man was shot in the foot on Mill Street, according to the City of Poughkeepsie Police.

Police received a report of a man shot around 4:58 p.m. at 20 N. Perry St.,  said Det. Lt. Matt Clark.

Responding officers found a 23-year-old male shot in the foot, who told officers he had been shot in the area of 181 Mill Street. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his wound, Clark said.

A short time later, officers found Alvin Kiggundu, 22, of Poughkeepsie, was found in possession of a stolen 9mm handgun. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and felony criminal possession of stolen property, Clark said.

Kiggundu is being held pending his arraignment.

The investigation into the shooting is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police at 845-451-7577.
