DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - Nearly a half-century later, New York State Police continue their investigation into the homicide of a 54-year-old Dutchess County man.
State Police issued an update on Tuesday regarding the investigation of Wingdale resident Leonard Monette, who was found dead by troopers 45 years ago.
Troopers were dispatched to Eddie’s Service Station shortly before midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1971, near the intersection of Route 9 and County Route 28 in Wappinger.
Monette was found dead in a dark storeroom in the back of the building upon arrival onto the scene, according to police. A night attendant at the Texaco Station, Monette suffered head injuries and had been stabbed in the back. It is believed he was killed following a robbery at the gas station.
The investigation into Monette’s death remains under investigation. Police said that numerous leads have been followed, but no suspect has been brought into custody.
