The program, started earlier this year in response to gun violence in the city, is one of 13 across the state. Run by Danny Hairston, the program responds to every act of gun violence in the city in an effort to reduce shootings and save lives, he said.

"It doesn't matter how big or small the event is, we are there to offer support," he said.

Thursday's rally, at 6:30 p.m. at Mural Square on Main Street, is to reinforce the program's efforts of stopping gun violence and to let residents know there is a place for those who want to get away from that lifestyle.

After a shooting occurs, Hairston said members of the program resond to the site of the shooting and the hospital to offer support for bystanders, victims and those involved.

The two people on Friday in front of a Main Street business may have been bystanders, he added.

Both victims received minor injuries.

The work of SNUG includes working one-on-one with those at risk for gun violence, as well as community organizing interventions.
