Julia A. Gary, 55, and her daughter, Kimberly Gary, 23, of Highland, were charged on Wednesday, Dec. 28, with endangering the welfare of a child after a child protective worker visited the hotel to check on the children and found a 24-year-old heroin overdose victim in the room with them, said Lt. James Janso.

"Emergency officials were able to bring back the overdose victim with Narcan," Janso said.

According to Janso, the overdose victim was just lying there with the children in the room.

The three-week-old was turned over to child protective services and the 8-year-old was turned over to a responsible family member, he added.

Both women are being held at the Ulster County Jail on $1,000 cash bail, $3,000 insurance bond.
