POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A City of Poughkeepsie man who is currently serving a seven-year sentence for robbery at the Gowanda Correctional Facility, was charged Friday with the 2015 murder of Shameik Floyd.

Trent Yant, 23, was charged with second-degree murder, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of robbery, conspiracy and tampering with physical evidence, said the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.

His arrest comes following an investigation into the June 30, 2015, murder of Floyd, a 21-year-old City of Poughkeepsie resident. Floyd was found lying in the street near 200 Mansion St. around 9:40 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the head. He died a short time later, police said.

Yant was arraigned and remanded back into the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections.

The investigation into the murder is continuing, anyone with information is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police at 845-451-7577.
